About

Hello, We Are

Wesley Turner & Daniel Schavey.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm Wesley (pictured left) and that's my partner Daniel (pictured right). If you didn't just happen to stumble upon us, then you probably know us as @Farmshenanigans on Instagram. We love documenting our shenanigans as we renovate & style our farmhouse, and startup our cut flower farm just outside the city limits of Greenville, SC.

Daniel and I met in 2008 and opened our first retail store, Roots, in August 2009. Roots is a Garden Boutique just 2 miles from downtown Greenville where we specialize in potted arrangements for indoors and out. Our goal was to bring beautiful thriving plants to the local market in a creative way. In 2013 We opened our second retail store, 4Rooms. Oddly enough it's located just across the street from Roots and it's our Furniture and Home Decor store. So basically we're in the business of selling all things that make your home a beautiful place to be.

In 2016 I finally talked Daniel into looking at Farms! I wanted a place to have more animals and we both wanted a place to grow some of our own products for Roots. I grew up in the country in West Tennessee and Daniel grew up in a suburb of Charolette, NC. He was used to cul-de-sacs, sidewalks, and at most a push mower. Well, as luck would have it we found THE Farm! It met all the requirements... close to work, space for growing, space for animals, several out buildings, house with more than 1 bathroom, and the bonus of a pond! BUT there was a catch! The previous owner ran a house "Salvage" business. What that really meant was he tore down old houses, sold off the desirable pieces such as the old doors, trim, and windows. Then he dumped the other stuff on the property. We ended up buying a farm with a large outdated home and 14 acres of debris. That's when @Farmshenanigans was born! I just had to document our Farm Journey.

We closed on the house the last day of May in 2016. That same day we bought a tractor, had the largest dumpster possible delivered, and bought an a/c window unit because none of the 3 central air units were working. That's when the journey began! We started cleaning up the property and updating the house. As if that wasn't enough, we decided instead of growing a few things for Roots, Why Not start a Cut Flower Farm. Needless to Say Daniel has adjusted well to farm life and we both love a good project.

As of August 2017 we have cleaned up about 98% of the 14 acres, We have renovated about 75% of the house, we have almost completed our 1st full season of growing cut flowers (which are gorgeous), and we were on an episode of HGTV's We Bought The Farm... That's a ton of shenanigans.

We hope you enjoy our blog which is meant to be an extension of our Instagram account (@Farmshenanigans) because some things just need a little more explanation.

Stop by often and leave a few comments!
